Besides her aggressive and charismatic nature on Empire, the hit series, there is so much more to love about everyone’s favorite tv series’ personality, Cookie. One such element was her bold, yet elegant wardrobe selection. Always caught in a variety of lavish coats from leather to fur, her dressing style always had a feel of animalistic self-assurance. With the ‘winter’ approaching, now more than ever is the best time to bring out the Cookie in you.
There was once a time where I would stroll into the Nairobi CBD and see countless women with animal print dresses, trousers, tops, shoes….the list goes on. If you are one of those women, then you already have the first item on Cookie’s wardrobe ‘must have’, especially if you have leopard print. To finish the look, go ahead and pair this with bold golden accessories, and a black leather coat or boots or both.
I had mentioned this briefly above. Cookie loves her gold, it was signature to her look and it should be yours if you wish to mirror the same. The gold wasn’t just presented in her jewelry, but on her nails, in slight detail on her accessories, her shoes, her clothing. Since the majority of Kenyan women tend to have a warmer skin tones, this dash of color will not come off as a distasteful contrast to most complexions.
Let’s not forget the Hats
To be more precise, fedoras. This playful feature struck the most amusement and admiration on my part. It brought on a fanciful finishing touch to the character that gave her a powerful appearance. Complete the look with heels and/or a long trench to keep it classily cookie. The fedora should not contrast, but mirror the rest of the outfit.
From short dresses to long coats, to black leather and gold everything, animal print, fedoras, and oh yes, a gun. Do you have all of the above ticked on your checklist?
