As a wedding cake baker, we always allow clients to express their thoughts before jumping in with our own ideas. But some clients need a lot of help with inspiration. Remember that your wedding cake should blend perfectly with your invitations and other nitty-gritty details that determine the style and feel of your wedding. The cake should make a unique statement but at the same time complement other accessories used in the event.
At Sweet Inspirations, here is what we usually advice clients when it comes to wedding cakes.
Consider the season
Believe it or not, the weather may influence your choice of cake decorations especially if you’ll be having an outdoor wedding. What we usually do when a client reveals their wedding date is to consider the time of the year and whether they’re going to have an outdoor reception. We advise clients to stay away from decorations that could turn out disastrous in those windy months.
Come up with a unique look
It’s like the level of creativity increases when someone is planning for their wedding. We say this because couples have approached us with some of the most intricate, interesting and sometimes absurd cake designs ever. What we do if the designs cannot be executed exactly the way they want is offer the client a collection of ideas which are similar to what they’ve envisioned. It’s important for a wedding cake baker to always incorporate your ideas for the look to turn out uniquely yours. Whether you prefer a traditional cake or a modern and sleek design, a good baker should be able to offer you just that.
You can’t please everyone
Guess what? Not everyone at your wedding will love chocolate cake, or vanilla or black forest, so it’s impossible to please everyone. We’ve often seen couples getting stressed when choosing a cake flavor because so and so may not like it. You need to choose what YOU like because it’s YOUR big day.
Be wary of those inedible colors
While we’ve done many wedding cakes in royal blue, purple, pink and other dramatic colors here at Sweet Inspirations, we usually tell couples that some of these colors may have certain drawbacks. Imagine your hot pink creamy cake staining your dress or leaving color on everyone’s lips. You’d rather choose hot pink ribbons and flowers that can be easily removed and go for the light colored creams and icings which don’t cause staining.
Cake stand and table are important
We say this to couples time and time again – you can’t have a beautiful cake poorly displayed. It messes the whole look! The same way you took time to find the best baker, take your time when selecting the topper, base and cake stand. All these elements contribute to a breathtakingly beautiful wedding cake.
With these few tips, we hope you’ll be able to find your flawless wedding cake. In case you need a trusted baker to step in and help, Sweet Inspirations is just a call away.
