We’ve seen a fair share of small and big weddings. And we love them all. But there’s something enticing about small and intimate weddings. Having just your family members and closest friends witness your nuptials is extra special. Sometimes couples choose a small wedding, not because they can’t afford a big one, but mainly because they want to keep things as simple and intimate as possible.
Furthermore, keeping the wedding guest list small will prevent so much stress. With a small guest list, the cost of almost everything will go down. But here in Kenya, we know it’s like custom to invite everyone to your wedding.
So how do you pull off a small and intimate wedding in Kenya?
What’s your definition of a small wedding?
One’s couple definition of small may vary from another. Some people want less than 200 guests in their wedding whereas others are looking for a party with just 50 guests. Whatever your idea of small is, remember that an intimate wedding is nothing close to the typical weddings you normally attend. You’ll have to chop your guest list if you are really looking forward to a small wedding.
Expect all sorts of reactions
The minute you announce that you are going to have a small wedding, expect all kinds of reactions from your friends and family. Some of your relative may be supportive but many of them will have mixed feelings. Don’t be surprised if rumors start surfacing that you’re broke and unable to spend money on the wedding. All couples experience the same.
Consider different venues for the ceremony and reception
Not so many venues in Kenya can host small weddings so you need to be very careful when choosing one. Take your time and visit chapels, hotels and gardens that are particularly designed for intimate weddings.
Consider destination weddings
IF your wedding guest list is really small, and you don’t have a very limited budget, consider having a destination wedding. This will give your guests a mini-vacation and it’s also going to be easy to plan. We have very beautiful locations in Kenya for destination weddings. Your closest friends and family members would love to get away.
