Getting a professional wedding photographer can be very expensive and may not be a viable option for every couple. You may have to look for other options if you are on a tight budget as this is the only option if you want to have everything you wanted at your wedding. If this is you, looking for a non-professional photographer could be the last resort solution you need.
By non-professional, we don’t mean you go for the clueless photographer who will ruin your day. It means you get a photographer with just enough photography experience and who will give you the most reasonable rates. Below are a few tips you should consider when you are thinking of hiring a non-pro photographer.
Sign a contract
If you are going to hire a non-professional photographer, you need a contract, no matter how well you know him or her. Even if the photographer is a close friend or family member and is offering the services for free, having a contract is a must.
Signing the contract ensures everyone is on the same page and prevents any disagreements you may have in the future. You do not want to be one of those couples who months after their wedding still don’t have their wedding photos. The contract should include everything you expect the photographer to do and everything the photographer expects you to do.
Have a test run
After signing the contract, you need to do a test run just to be sure the photographer is up to the task. Most non-professional photographers may still be able to take good photos but you need to be 100% sure they can deliver what you want. Wedding photography is challenging to photographers and the one you choose needs to have the necessary skills.
Invest in the right equipment
If you are getting a friend or family member to take the photos at your wedding, you may want to help them get the right equipment. This is especially so when they are doing it for free. You do not necessarily have to buy everything they need since it can be expensive. The best way to go about it is hire what the photographer needs just for the day as that is much cheaper.
Ask for RAW Shooting
Most professional wedding photographers shoot in RAW format as this gives them more control over their images. Unfortunately, amateur photographers don’t and this is not a good thing. With RAW files, you can fix something you don’t like on the photo. You can also hand over the RAW files to a professional photo editor to edit the photos for you if your photographer is not skilled in this area.
